No matter the country’s political leadership, no matter its invasive foreign policy, no matter how inconsistent its treatment of its underprivileged, the so-called “American Dream,” while nebulous and ill-defined, still flashes as a welcoming beacon to waves of ambitious would-be émigrés the world over. Of course, like any dream, it’s often better in the abstract than it is when met with cold, hard reality.
