The Doctrine of Discovery had immense consequences for the Natives who already lived on the land. Millions of indigenous people around the world have suffered genocide, land theft, cultural humiliation, displacement, and apartheid. These atrocious acts have long-lasting negative effects that get passed on from one generation to the next.
