“Come on out, little savage,” he said in a husky baritone. “I wanna see you play.”
“Uh…why do you look excited to murder me?” “Didn’t know it was you,” I said, shoulders dropping and turning toward the table again. “Now I’m sad.”
“I always knew there was a little savage in there, waiting to be unleashed.” He pulled back and smirked, huffing out a quiet laugh. “Can she come out to play?”
“Except the only difference is I’ll fucking kill anyone who tries to hurt you, now.”
“Nothing. You’re small. Just a small man. With a little peen.”
“I’m going to kill that motherfucker, Gray. For every ounce of pain he’s ever inflicted on you. His life is on loan because I will fucking own his fate when I get him in my hands. And he’s known it for years.”
More loss. I’d be losing someone I’d never truly had.
He’d regained color to his pallor since holding my hand. Steadiness returned to his voice, and the shivering was receding. But his hand never wavered from mine. Now, he was only a touch of gold and madness, instead of a full blown assault.
“You look so fucking beautiful in your full form,” Chrome whispered. “You’re my rainbow. My beam of hope.”
“I’m going to need you to clarify what you mean by ‘touch you.’ Because I’m going to be honest, Gray. There’s a million ways I want to touch you. And none of them are innocent.” Oh.
“Plus, all of this has just been so much, so fast. Just a few days ago, I wanted you dead. Like…dead, dead. As dead as you want my father.” Chrome grinned. “Oh, I know. I felt that in the speakeasy. Your rage is such a turn-on.”
“Jensen? That’s the runner at the—” “The speakeasy where you tried to slit my throat? Yes, little savage, that’s the one,” Chrome cut in, drawling with an amused grin.
“I will always find you, Gray,” Chrome whispered. Somehow, we’d gravitated to the point where our lips nearly touched when he said, “No matter the realm. No matter if I’m Endarkened. I will always find you.”
“As much as you bring me light, I bask in your darkness, too. Because I want all of you. Good, bad, light, and dark. Whole or broken. I want you to love the dark parts of yourself because dark and light exists within us all, Gray.”
“No matter what happens to me, I’ll always find you. In every lifetime. In every realm. Because it’s always been you for me—ever since I was ten years old.” “I’m yours,” I whispered, and I meant it.
“Your king raped a powerful Elemental to conceive me, so take that shit up with him.”
In the next breath, the offender was blown to entrails. Frustration bubbled in my chest. “I had that!” “I know,” Chrome said, stabbing the side of a man’s neck. “But he hurt you.” He whirled. “Pissed me off. Told you I’d kill anyone who ever dared to hurt you again.”
“You think a simple stab wound will slow me down? Remember how you used to cut and stab me with your blades when you’d rape me because I cried? And then said, if I didn’t find a way to heal, I’d prove how weak I was and didn’t deserve to live?” I laughed, devoid of anything decent left inside me. “Yeah, you trained me well.”
