My sneakers squeak on the tile floors, earning me a look from the receptionist. I avert my gaze and squeak faster down the hall to the dining room.
“I only ask because there’s no way I can sit across from you for the next twenty minutes and not flirt with a woman as beautiful as you.”
She turns to go into the classroom with a smile on her lips. The sight makes me feel like there are Pop Rocks in my chest, a sweet fizzy feeling that I don’t want to lose. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt this way about a woman before.
Excitement rushes through my veins like I just drank an energy drink and a coffee back-to-back–neither of which I’m allowed to have anymore, according to my family.
but what’s the point of having all this money if I don’t spend it on an elaborate ruse every once in a while?
I’m not a man known for my self-control. I’m responsible, sure, but I’ve also bought a jet ski because I saw a TikTok of a guy doing a handstand on one and thought to myself hey, I could do that. I did, by the way, but that’s not the point.
