“Gray…” I trailed off, closing my eyes when it became too much. “Let me love you,” he said, his words softly spoken against my mouth. He took my hand in his, guiding it to the mark on the center of his chest and splaying my fingers over the place where his heart beat in tune with mine. “I can’t,” I said, a sob breaking free. “Oh, Witchling,” he said, smiling sadly as he stared down at me. “You already are.”
“I have given enough. I have lost enough. I am not going to lose you, too.” In spite of my best intentions, the back of my throat burned. His pain was so palpable, so like mine, that it struck me just how similar we were in so many ways.
I cupped her cheek, willing her to finally believe me. “I love every side of you, Witchling. Even the parts that make you human.”
