Gray and I would burn the world to the ground if I allowed our love to grow, accepting it as part of me when it was unnatural.
“I love you, Witchling. For everything you are and everything you are not.”
Gray lounged on the couch, a book on his lap as he flipped the pages. He looked so comfortable, so relaxed in the new home he’d created for himself here.
“You’re right,” he said, nodding his head. “I used you to get what I wanted, and then I tried to do everything I could to make it up to you. I would never hurt you again. I would never do this. I would never throw us away.”
“This blade was created to kill me, make no mistake, but it’s not my weakness, Witchling,” he said, releasing my hands and leaving me standing there and holding the knife to my own heart. “You are.”
That was the conflict of our love—the constant push and pull of two people who shouldn’t work, but somehow did.
“You are worth so much more than a fucking sacrifice, Willow. I’ve failed you if you don’t know that.”
“Nothing here has any value without you. You’re my home,”
“They would gladly sacrifice you if it meant the world survived, but I wouldn’t. I would never walk this plane again if it meant I had you at my side in Hell.”
For her, I’d spend my life on my knees if she asked it.
“As long as I have you, I can be okay with that decision if I need to be.”
If only Beelzebub was as amicable toward her. The demon who had killed her was still frustrated with her very existence, even if the witch he wanted to court was friends with Willow. Poor Margot. The witch didn’t stand a chance.
“She is to him what you are to me, my love,” Gray said, touching his forehead to mine. “We’ll get them back when we can.”
“Fuck the balance. I’ll watch the world burn before I allow it to force you into something you do not want,”
“I choose you, every day,” she said, those words the reassurance of everything I’d wanted to hear.
We were here. We were together. We were home.
“You can have anything you want, Goddess,” he said, taking a step closer to me. I stared up at him, his face so close to mine. “As long as I can have her.”
A bargain for an eternity at his side. A bargain for love.
