To anyone who has ever felt like you were fading into the background. You deserve a man who looks at you and says, “For you, I would.”
“When I’m done with you, you’ll be lucky if they didn’t hear you screaming my name.”
“If you need it rough and dirty, I can give that to you. I swear I can give you everything you’ll ever need.”
“Now, I would hate to disrespect a man in his family home, but that’s the mother of my child you’re speaking to. If you can’t speak to her with respect, then you speak to me.”
“You’re stronger than you think. You don’t need anybody. But what I’m telling you is you don’t have to do it alone.”
The fucking audacity.
“I fell in love with her. I knew I shouldn’t. Tried damn hard not to, but . . .” The collective sigh that floated through the room had me crossing my arms. “She’s it for me.”
“A man like that, one that will honor his relationship above his own blood, that’s someone I could grow to respect.”
My knee bounced, and I ran a damp palm down my leg. “I’m going to give her Mom’s ring. I plan to ask for her father’s blessing, even though he’ll tell me to go to hell.” I dipped my chin in resolution. “But I’ll give it to her anyway.”
“I got the one thing he could never buy. Your mother’s heart. Held on to that precious gift with both hands for as long as I could.”
One night had changed everything, and what a perfect night it was.
