He blows out a long breath, stirring the hair at the top of my head. “You do realize you’re both stubborn and infuriating?” I don’t answer. Does he really expect me to agree?

“Who did that to you?” he asks in a low, furious voice. I stiffen under my blanket. “It doesn’t matter.” “It matters to me.” My whole body goes still. “Why?” “Because I punish people who hurt women.”
