“Or I should eat less.” “You’re a woman, Cat. That’s how you’re supposed to look.”
“There’s nothing like starving to make a person appreciate food,”
What’s wrong with me? I must be coming down with something, like empathy. Gah!
If my godfather wants Beta Sinta and me together, he must have a very good reason for it. Or at least I hope so.
“You won’t try to escape?” I shake my head, unable to look away. “No. I swear it.” “Ever. You won’t try to escape me ever. Not as long as I live.” My eyes widen, and I gulp down a scathing retort. “That’s a lot to ask,” I say roughly. “I have a lot to lose,”
“You’re mine now, Cat. Don’t you dare die on me.”
“I’ve been taught well. I’m the favored child.”
“I hate you.” He’s silent for a moment and then very deliberately says, “I hate you, too.”
“Don’t overestimate the masses. They love you until they hate you. They hate you until they love you.”
Griffin tilts my chin up until our eyes meet. “I love you, Cat. I would do anything to keep you safe. That is my binding vow.”
I’m just a woman, not the woman who will destroy the world.
I am destined to end the world as we know it.
