I took the time to double check the meaning of the word nonplussed, and it has two: to be surprised/thrown off AND to not be surprised/thrown off. I always just thought I was forgetting its meaning. Nope. It means the opposite thing depending on the writer. All that to say, I genuinely have no idea how she was feeling here…
