Our friendship is full of steadfast love, stretching for a decade and a half. The kind that picks you up at your lowest lows and celebrates your highest highs. If anyone can help me through the surprise of today, it’s her.
When you’re used to shielding yourself and keeping things locked inside, it’s weird to have people who support you. People at your side, cheering you on. Wanting the best for you because they care about you and love you.

staring at Josephine is catastrophic. It’s noticing the freckles across her nose. It’s realizing her eyes have flecks of blue in them, the bright color mixed in with a sea of devastating green. It’s understanding she’s without a doubt the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. It’s recognizing for the first time that there’s a reason I can’t get this woman out of my head.

Reading is my escape from reality. My favorite food is mashed potatoes.
“I’d appreciate it if you got my girlfriend’s name out of your mouth before I do it for you. We’ll wave from the stage while you’re sitting in the cheap seats in the back.

I hate spending time with people, but I want to spend time with you.”
“I’ll be patient, I promise.” “I know you will be. And I don’t give a fuck about stretch marks or cellulite, sweetheart. You know why? Because it means you’re a woman who’s lived. An incredible life full of laughter and adventures and stories I can’t wait to hear. I’m not going to see the marks. I’m just going to see you.”
Why he jumped in to act as my fake boyfriend, a ruse that only lasted a day because of how much he likes me. He didn’t want anything between us to be pretend. He wanted it to be real.
And when it’s for the girl of my dreams, well.” He laughs and shakes his head. “You never stood a chance.”
What are you reading?” “Oh, this book I saw online. Boy meets girl. Girl makes boy laugh. Boy and girl fall in love. The end. It’s the typical romance formula.” “Predictable?” I ask. “Always, but that’s what I love about romance novels. You know there’s going to be a happily ever after from the moment you start reading, so you get to spend time falling in love with the characters while they fall in love with each other.”
“You’re going to fall in love with me.” I think I already am.
The people that think time is infinite have never lost someone they love.”
“I’ve thought about kissing you for years,”
“You are special. You’re the most special person in the world.”
Sleeping is different. It’s lying next to someone for hours when you’re at your most vulnerable. Getting to know them in the early morning, long before the light of the sun touches the earth. It’s beautiful and it’s important with a lasting impact. It’s a place to feel safe. A place to feel loved.
“I think my heart has belonged to you from the first day I saw you,”
Small, little things, like kissing my forehead and making sure the covers are tucked under my chin. Patience and kindness and understanding. Not having to mask who I am, embraced by someone who sees all of me and welcomes every single part.
I’m lucky to have her. I’m not sold on the idea of romantic soulmates, but friendship soulmates are a real thing, and she’s mine.”
I think it takes a special person to see you when you’re at your lowest point, when you’re most vulnerable, and still find the good in you, you know?”
“What I mean is, if you knew these were your last few minutes, what would make you the happiest? Close your eyes. What would have you smiling as the plane plummeted to the ground? When you have that answer, that’s what you should do. People come and go. Jobs come and go. You can always move to a new apartment or start school later down the road. You don’t have enough days to do something that doesn’t make you totally and completely happy.”
“That’s not silly.” Eric reaches over and pats my hand. “That means you’re falling in love.”
I like learning things about you. The sound of your laugh. What each of your smiles mean. How you like to sleep in socks and which side of the bed you prefer. It makes me feel like maybe I’m the only one who will ever know these parts of you.”
