The Honeymoon

I’m an only child – same as Austin – my parents aren’t precious about it. Whichever name I ended up with was the least of Dad’s concerns.

I watch him as though seeing him for the first time. Or the last. And I finally let myself relax. Roll over again and let sleep take me.

I ask, my heart juddering.

I realise now that those types of things are usually once-in-a-lifetime dream situations, and I turned mine down. Instead, I opted for the once-in-a-lifetime dream boyfriend. He literally is the perfect boyfriend

I get out of bed and quickly pull on jeans, a hoodie, a pair of trainers and a backpack. Lastly, I take the expensive blonde wig that’s hidden in a bag in my suitcase, and carefully arrange it over my auburn locks. I place my regular phone on my bedside table, take my burner phone and leave the hotel.

I knew it.

‘You catfished me. You ruined our marriage before it’s even begun! What kind of person creates a fake girlfriend for their fiancé? How could you do that?’
