His footsteps continued quietly beside me before he said hesitantly, “What if I didn’t kill your parents, what then?”
“For what it’s worth, I’m sorry, Ilara. I didn’t intend to make you feel that way.”
The edge in his tone turned razor-sharp.
“Because even though you’ve been doing an impressive job of ignoring me, I’ve been doing the opposite with you.
I slammed my lips to his.
I realized he wasn’t going to admit what happened, so finally I said, “How long have you known?”
“That I’m your mate?” I whispered.
“What if I didn’t kill them?”
“Of course it is, but it’s never been warded to you.”
You’re not a monster, Norivun. I see that. I see you.”
His chest heaved, his mouth tightening, and then he squeezed my hand again, his fingers once more encircling mine. “I’ve waited so long to find you.”
“I ache for you, Ilara.”
“You’re mine, Ilara Seary,” he growled softly in my ear. “Forever. You are my mate, and you belong with me. Anyone who tries to take you from me will suffer my wrath.”
“Tonight is about you. My mate. My queen.”
“You’ll always be my female.”
“You are mine, Ilara Seary. Tell me you are. Tell me that only I will ever be the one to touch you, fuck you, love you from this moment forward.”
“Yes, I’m yours, Norivun Deema Melustral Achul, from now until the end of time.”
“Sleep, my love,”
“Of course, Krelahala. I’ve been waiting for you to join my clan and for you to learn who you really are.”
My love.
Because one day we would be reunited, and I would be ready for her. My mate. My queen.
