As Vincenzo brought the apple to his lips and bit into it, I quickly pulled out a throwing knife from inside my coat and flung it straight at him. The blade flew through the air, piercing the apple with textbook precision. "Intelligente e bella." Smart and beautiful, Alessandro said in Italian. "I preferisco mortale." I prefer deadly, I replied in Italian. I watched in amusement as all three of the De Luca men looked at me in surprise, their jaws dropping open. They hadn't anticipated that I could speak their native tongue.
"Don't be an idiot," I heard Nikolai reply. Great! They're both fucking out there. "You know we monitor that shit." They fucking what?! "Calendar says it's still two and a half weeks away.” "Right. Right." I could just imagine Lukyan nodding along. "I forgot that we started doing that after she tried to burn me with that blowtorch. Damn Shark Week," he grumbled.
"Want some advice?" Lukyan asked, leaning back casually in his chair and humming softly. "Not really, but I have a feeling you're going to give it to me anyway," I replied. "She's fucking crazy. Get out while you can." Aleksandr slapped him on the back of the head. Lukyan grunted and scowled at his older brother, massaging his head.
