second mechanism for forgetting something: the disturbance of an idea by an inner contradiction arising from something repressed.
whatever has been forgotten or distorted is linked by association, in some way or other, with unconscious ideas which manifest themselves as forgetfulness.
When I analyse those instances of forgetting names that I observe in myself, I almost always find that the name which eludes me is related to some subject closely affecting my own person, and able to cause me strong and often painful feelings.
