It took all his Furies-given strength not to fall to his knees. ‘For whatever it’s worth,’ he told her hoarsely, ‘I’ll never stop being yours.’
‘He loves you. That was never in any doubt. Not to us. I’ll wager that everything he does is for you.’
‘I told myself that it was enough,’ he murmured into her hair, his voice hoarse. ‘That I should be grateful for the time we had. It was more love than most people get in a lifetime. But the truth is, Thea… A thousand lifetimes with you wouldn’t be enough.’
He was looking at her as though he’d known her his entire life, as though she’d always been a part of him.
‘It’s me and you now,’ he told her. ‘Always.’ Thea struggled to swallow the lump that had formed in her throat. She nodded. ‘Always.’
The way she looked at him told him she felt the same, and he swore by the Furies that as insatiable as they were, he’d never stop trying to please her. Making her happy and keeping her that way would be his life’s work.
It was in this suspended moment of time that he realised words were not enough, that his love for her demanded everything of him and he would gladly give it all.
‘I don’t give a fuck where I go, so long as it’s with you.’
Warmth bloomed in Thea at the thought of her burly Warsword buying peppermint tea for her and her alone.
‘When I stand against the gods at the end of my days,’ he told her fiercely, ‘I will regret nothing. Not the lies I’ve told, nor the lives I’ve claimed or the rivers of blood I’ve spilt. I do not regret a single moment, because every one of them led me to you.’
He wanted to tell her he couldn’t, and wouldn’t, live without her. That, should the Furies wish to take her from him, he’d tear their fucking mountain down to get her back.
