“If anyone touches you again, I’ll make sure it’s their last time to touch anyone.”
“And you never will at the hands of anyone else. From now on, you’ll forget about any bastard who touched you in the past.”
“You asked when I’d be done. The answer is never. I’ll never be done with you, Lenochka.”
“Too late.” He stares at me with those unnerving eyes. “I already claimed you as mine and there’s no going back.”
We’re on different sides of the chessboard, he and I, and there’s no room for us to play the same game.
I probably would never admit this out loud, but Adrian’s aftercare is addictive. It’s so tender in contrast to his brutal touch.
“Do you know her, Volkov?” the man asks. “No.” Adrian doesn’t look at me, his voice casual.
Lia isn’t the other woman. She’s the woman. And I’m not my fucking father.
“Scars mean you are alive and strong enough to survive.” He kisses the top of my head. “I’ll worship each of your scars until you’re able to face them, Lenochka.”
“If you resist, let alone attempt to run, I’ll catch you and we’ll do it my way. I assure you that’s the last thing you’d want, Lia.”
“You’re mine now, Mrs. Volkov.” I hate having his last name attached to mine. For some reason, it feels like I’ve sold my soul to the devil.
A sob tears from my throat, because I know, I just know that I lost a part of Adrian tonight. The part I fell in love with.
“I should kill you right now.” “Do. It,” she manages. “Dying is better than living with you.”
“Because I loved you.” I lay a palm over my heart and fist the material of my dress. “And it’s killing me every day.”
