“That’s the difference between you and me, Ryan. You hear jealousy. I hear, leave me alone.”
The scariest thing about him isn’t his gun—that I’m sure is hidden somewhere. It’s the absolute calm etched in his handsome features when he’s about to use that gun. It’s his complete composure right now while I’m trembling like a leaf in a hurricane. He is that hurricane, wrecking people’s lives without being affected in the least.
“Do you enjoy this?” “What?” “Being the Grim Reaper over others’ lives.” “Not if I can help it, no. Being the Grim Reaper doesn’t actually give me answers…just bodies.”
Taking advantage of people’s wounds is my specialty. Smashing them in is what I do best.
“I’m okay.” “Don’t say that again.” “That I’m okay?” “That word doesn’t suit you. It’s juvenile, when you’re anything but.”
“I would never let you touch me if it were up to me.” “That’s why it’s not up to you.”
He’s the type of beauty one should only admire from afar. Whenever anyone gets close, he’ll snuff them out like a deadly exotic animal.
“I’m going to fuck you so hard, you won’t be able to move, Lia, and when you do, you’ll only feel me inside you.”
“And you never will at the hands of anyone else. From now on, you’ll forget about any bastard who touched you in the past.”
“Then you shouldn’t get in my way, Lenochka. I will ruin you, break you and mess you the fuck up.” “Aren’t you doing that already?” “Not truly, no. You’d be smart not to provoke that side of me.”
“You called me a disaster, but this is the true disaster, Lia. You and me.”
“You asked when I’d be done. The answer is never. I’ll never be done with you, Lenochka.”
“Too late.” He stares at me with those unnerving eyes. “I already claimed you as mine and there’s no going back.”
“What does that mean?” “What does what mean?” “Lenochka?” “Bright light.”
“That doesn’t make you gloomy. A rose shines brighter alone than when it’s in a field.” “Is that why you plucked me?” My voice lowers as I stare at the bowl of salad. “Possibly.”
“Because I’m going to fuck you until you scream, my deadly thorn.”
Lia isn’t the other woman. She’s the woman. And I’m not my fucking father.
“Scars mean you are alive and strong enough to survive.” He kisses the top of my head. “I’ll worship each of your scars until you’re able to face them, Lenochka.”
“You’re a monster,” I breathe out. “And you’re marrying this monster.”
“You are my wife, Mrs. Volkov, and I will whip and fuck that fact into your body until you act like it.”
A sob tears from my throat, because I know, I just know that I lost a part of Adrian tonight. The part I fell in love with.
“Understand this, Lia. I might not hurt you, might not fucking kill you, even though you deserve it, but I’ll find that bastard, and when I do, I’ll fuck you in front of him before I slice his fucking throat. Then I’ll fuck you again in the pool of his blood.” I release her neck and she sucks in deep breaths, tears sliding down her cheeks. “Protect him while you can.”
