They would just have to figure things out as they came and there were some things that couldn’t be mapped out. She had to be okay with that.
That was her girlfriend. Her girlfriend, who was going to take over the world one day. In an amazing not-villainous way. But in the way that she was brilliant and well intentioned and was just so – lovely.
Now that she was so used to having her in bed every night, sleeping alone felt almost unnatural.
“I never knew who the person in those dreams would be. I never knew how old I would be or what my career would be. None of those variables were ever clear. Nothing was, except that I was always… happy.”
“I could have existed in those worlds, a different me with a different someone else in a different life. But I know without a doubt I could live in a thousand lifetimes and still never be as happy as this one with you.”
“I didn’t ever think I would find someone whose happiness would become more important than anything in the entire world.”
“But here you are and… you’ve changed me. Now, I am someone who dreams about getting married.” Charlotte glanced down, her breath leaving her in a heavy tremble, honesty and sincerity written all over her features. “I want to marry you tonight, in front of our friends and family. And I want to marry you tomorrow in front of the entire world. I want this with you, Sutton, forever.”
“Just because I can’t sleep without you doesn’t mean I’m not upset.”
She’d had a plan her entire life and somehow that plan had been completely reworked and reimagined but had still brought her to this night. To this reality that felt better than any dream she’d had in the past.
She’d knocked down all of Charlotte’s walls and restored them so that they’d fit the both of them. She was the one who had been there with her through everything. She was the one who made her laugh so hard she cried, who held her when she truly needed to cry. They’d brought life into this world, they’d lost family members, and it was – it was Sutton who was there at the beginning and end of everything.
but if I didn’t have you here to do it with me, my life wouldn’t be full.”
“I don’t know if there’s a destiny, but I know that if there is, you’re mine.”
