Now that she was so used to having her in bed every night, sleeping alone felt almost unnatural.
“But I also think that means you know exactly what people want to hear. You know exactly how to charm and enchant and give people what they want. Or, how to make people think you’re giving them what they want; which is a tremendous skill, one I even can admire,”
“I could have existed in those worlds, a different me with a different someone else in a different life. But I know without a doubt I could live in a thousand lifetimes and still never be as happy as this one with you.”
“I didn’t ever think I would find someone whose happiness would become more important than anything in the entire world.”
“But here you are and… you’ve changed me. Now, I am someone who dreams about getting married.” Charlotte glanced down, her breath leaving her in a heavy tremble, honesty and sincerity written all over her features. “I want to marry you tonight, in front of our friends and family. And I want to marry you tomorrow in front of the entire world. I want this with you, Sutton, forever.”
Charlotte wasn’t facing the door but she didn’t have to be to know the soft footsteps approaching the bed; she could place them anywhere.
She’d knocked down all of Charlotte’s walls and restored them so that they’d fit the both of them.
“Maybe I would have been President no matter what, but if I didn’t have you here to do it with me, my life wouldn’t be full.”
“I don’t know if there’s a destiny, but I know that if there is, you’re mine.”
