“You are not disposable to me,” he said fiercely, his eyes igniting with all the fire of the sun. He stepped closer and my heart tripled its pace. I held up a hand to keep him back, but he kept coming, trapping me in his wild gaze. “You have awoken something in me I thought long dead, and I will not let you go because of it. No matter how much you torment or inconvenience me. I have laid claim to you, and I will not relinquish that claim now that you have chosen me in kind.”
“I’ll show you the world, drakaina hjarta,” he growled, his lips brushing my ear, my skin prickling at the touch. “Nothing will ever be kept from you again.”
“I’m coming for you, rebel!” he roared, his words sending a tremor through me that caused a mixture of longing and fear. “And hear me now, slayer. If you have left a single scratch on her when I hunt you down, I will ensure you know the kind of agony that only exists in the merciless depths of the afterlife. There is no path treacherous enough to keep me from her.”
“A warrior born but monster made, changes fates of souls enslaved. Twins of sun and moon will rise, when one has lived a thousand lives. A circle of gold shall join two souls, and a debt paid rights wrongs of old. In a holy mountain the earth will heal, then the dead shall live, and the curse will keel.”
“What I should have said is that you look radiant. Fucking bewitching. It’s how I’ve felt every time I’ve called you passable and all the times in between. But you don’t need this dress to steal my heart, rebel. You stole it with mascara running down your face, wearing nothing but tacky underwear.”
