My heart beat steadier than it had in a long time. Together, here in the clouds, nothing could touch us. And long may we fucking reign.
Somewhere, deep in the most bloodthirsty regions of my soul, I felt myself starting to let go of my grudge against the mutt. And maybe, just maybe, he was beginning to grow on me.
“I love you, Darius Vega,” Roxy said, her eyes falling closed as she settled herself against my chest where the pounding of my heart thumped against her ear. “I loved you first,” I told her, tightening my arm around her and letting my eyes shut too.
I gave in to what we both knew we were at the core of us. Simple animals addicted to the feeling of us.
“Does this sacred, transcendent, inspiring, flamboyantly fashionable ring of destiny mean what I believe it to mean? Are you going to sully your knee upon a mossy hill beneath the light of a million stars and ask the question to your fate-chosen mate that shall make the universe quake with reverence and the mighty ocean roil with desire?” “If you’re asking if I’m going to propose. Then yes,”
“Would you all add something small? A detail or two, or just a touch of magic? I think Blue would like that you all had a part in it.”
running his finger over it as he focused on harnessing his earth magic, crafting a beautiful moon cycle around the rim of the blue sapphire. “Fuck, that’s nice,” I admitted. “It has to be right for her,” Seth said quietly as he added a few tiny details, rivets in the metal marking the shadows on the moon’s surface.
Caleb stepped up next, touching his finger to the ring and a glimmer of power ran through it. Two delicate leaves grew from the gold, clasping the moon cycle and the sapphire at its centre.
Max walked up next, and when I offered him the ring, he leaned down to whisper a song to it. The words were soft and hypnotic, making the gold glow with a bluish tint for a second before his song fell away. “It’s unbreakable now, and it will never tarnish,”
She flapped a hand at me then examined the ring closely before adding her power to it. She engraved the words ‘blue means you’ on the inside of the metal then handed it back to me with a sniff. “She told you about that?” I murmured. “Of course she did, with rosy cheeks and a sparkle in her eye,” Geraldine said in a choked voice.
Sofia leaned in and whispered to the others. I picked up every word and was satisfied with their choice as they each held their hand above the ring and their skin began to shine. That glow spilled down into the sapphire, making it glitter beautifully, the blue colour brighter than before.
“It’ll shine even more when there’s a rainbow close by too,” Tyler said keenly.
“You’re going to propose.” She said it like an accusation of murder, and I shrugged one shoulder in answer. Without warning, I got something from Tory I rarely ever received. She swept forward and hugged me, tiptoeing up to wrap her arms around my shoulders and speaking into my ear. “No one’s worthy of her, but if anyone deserves her, it’s you Lance Orion.” Those words meant everything to me and I squeezed her tight before letting her go and offering her the ring. “Add what you like.” She contemplated it for a moment before reaching out and crafting a tiny Gemini symbol out of gold at the top

You are in my head morning, noon and night, your presence invigorates me and your absence leaves me aching. I dream of you whenever I sleep and burn for you whenever you are near. I can’t hide it anymore. I won’t hide it anymore. I want you to be mine, Seth, I fucking need you to be mine.”
“I love you,” he said, taking my jaw in his hand and drawing me close so that I could taste those words as he spoke them, brushing against my lips and sinking into my skin. “You stole my line, asshole,” I growled. “Then try it again.” “I love you, Seth Capella, even more than the moon loves the sky.”
“Mates,” I finished for him. “We’re Moon Mated.”
“Wake up, you asshole. We’re fucking moon friends, alright? There, I said it. I like you. You’ve made up for what you did. So come back here and let me give you some star damned forgiveness for it, yeah?
Nothing mattered but her. And as she melted into my arms, kissing me deeply and winding her body around mine, I knew she felt it too.
“I wish to belong to you in every way a person can belong to someone. The stars mated us, they wove our fates together long ago before our souls were cast inside our bodies. They may have marked you as mine and me as yours, but I want us to choose each other regardless of what the sky might think of it. Because if we hadn’t been mated, I would still love you like this, like the world begins and ends with you. I would have walked just as willingly into the depths of Darkmore, I would have destroyed myself to have a single taste of you. And if this is it, if our final sunrise crests on

“Yes,” she said, kissing me again then again. “I’ll marry you, Lance Orion.”
“A pocket watch?” Caleb’s eyebrows arched. “It’s…shit, that Elemental craftsmanship is perfect, Seth. But where are the clock hands?” “It doesn’t have any,” I said. “So it can’t tell the time?” “It tells our time,” I said tightly, heat rising in my cheeks as I placed the watch in his palm and closed his fingers around it. “Our clock doesn’t tick, Caleb Altair. There’s no seconds, minutes or hours, it has no day or night. It just is. Forever.”
No one defied us. No one ruled over us. No being could refute us.
“I love you, Gerry, just don’t say goodbye. I can fix this,” he said in desperation, tears caressing his beautiful face, and oh how this man should never know such pain. If only I could take it away, and not be the source of such misery. “Tell me I made them proud,” I begged. “You did, of course you did. They couldn’t have done any of this without you,”
There, above me, with tears staining his cheeks, his eyes closed in concentration as he sang me back from certain death and healed my body with a song of all songs, I found my salamander.
And as Roxanya Vega’s sword slammed straight into my chest, piercing my heart and ripping my soul from the confines of my living body, her final words to me rang like a death toll throughout my skull. “So much for the reign of the great Dragon King.”
“It’s time to claim your glory. The sun is waiting to smile down upon the new queens,”
We’d come into this world together, and we’d claimed our crowns together too. From misfortune to fortune, our path had been walked side by side. And as we led the way out of the dark, I knew that we would always be irrevocably bonded by three things. Our crowns. Our story. Our souls.
I took Darcy’s hand in mine, and together we sat upon the Hydra throne, claiming it for our own in front of our kingdom and the world.
Geraldine placed a crown on Darcy’s head and Gabriel placed a crown on mine and the crowd exploded into voracious roars of delight. Then, one by one, they all dropped to their knees before us and pledged their loyalty to our reign. I looked to my sister with an utterly liberated smile on my face which she returned just as brightly, and I knew that though nothing would ever be the same for us as it had once been, we would forever be at home in Solaria.
There she was, the queen I aways knew her to be, finally in her rightful place.
That no matter what path fate had guided me along in life, somehow, I always would have found myself at the end of an aisle facing Lance Orion.
This love between us all, these bonds that would never falter. Nothing in this realm compared, no Elements, no power, no crowns, or thrones. Just us. Family. And a love that would never die.
We were fathers, me and Cal. The two of us together. And we were going to give these kids the whole wide world.
This kingdom was ours. All of it. And as I shared a smile with my sister, I knew that no matter how many more years we spent ruling over Solaria, no matter what other trials the future brought our way, nothing was ever going to change that. We had been two lost girls adrift in the mortal realm, but here, in this wilderness of magic and endless love, we had found ourselves at home.
