“I find love to be like a tapestry, with each partner weaving their own unique thread into my life.” “You want me…” Serenna blinked as his gaze lingered on hers, mind working through his poetic words. “…As one of your partners?” Fenn shrugged and plucked at his hair, shifting on the ice. “I understand if you find me distasteful because I’m a wraith and you’re a pretty little elf.”
“But you’ve made a habit of challenging me, and I seem to lose control of them when I’m aroused by that.” Fenn’s incinerating stare slid back to hers. “Sometimes, all I can think about is about how much I’d like to sink my fangs into that ravishing neck.”
“Do it for me, she-elf.” Fenn squeezed her fingers weakly, a frail farewell. “I have”—he drew in a labored gasp—“I have nothing else…to give you.” His eyes started to glaze, the red flames dimming. “You already have”—his chest shuddered as he strained for another wheezing breath—“a key to my heart.”
Silver streamers of light sailed away from him, settling over her like a scattering of starry snow. Devastated by grief, Serenna sobbed. Fenn didn’t know what he was doing. He was fumbling, attempting to return her talent. Serenna’s thoughts flashed back to Vesryn in his delirium. But now, she recognized the magic of the connection. A soul reaching out. The fibers of a bond straining to form.
