She squinted as she studied him. “I’ve legit never seen someone look aghast before. Well done.”

“What do you think they’re hiding?” He cranked the heat as high as it would go to ward off the chill. “I think they’re hiding everything,” Evangeline said, shaking her head. “They’re like if a cover-up screwed a mystery and gave birth to a secret. What exactly they’re covering, your guess is as good as mine.”
