I wondered exactly where that research had been done. Presumably the University of Unsupported Hunches, where I was guessing she was a tenured professor.

He kissed me. He smelled great; I wished he were interesting.

“I had a way that I wanted things to go,” I said. “And I worked very hard to make them go that way, and they’re just not going to. And I’m really disappointed.”
