One would have thought them to be honeymooners when witnessing the doting adoration the big, dark, imposing baron showered upon his petite gilded wife. Their long-standing relationship fostered in childhood was evident in the seeming unspoken communication between the two of them.
Jeremy knew as she gazed up at him with those emerald eyes of hers that she was going to have her way. And Lily knew it too, the blasted woman. He was powerless when it came to her.
However, it seemed as if even the book wasn’t enough to entice her away from George’s body for long.
“You’re a woman made to be worshiped—to be devoured.”
When her breathing grew more labored, more frantic, and George believed he might very well expire if he couldn’t possess her that moment, he lifted her hips.
“Well,” George began as he tried to sit with some grace on the edge of the bed, “you cannot blame him. He’s forgone polite society and—for some unknown reason—made you his entire world.”
In another life, perhaps they might have suited quite well…in another life where her heart didn’t (foolishly, now she knew) already belong to a grouchy lion of a man.
