Humility: “having a lowly opinion of oneself; meekness, lowliness, humbleness.” Which no doubt, has been interpreted in a myriad of ways, but to me mostly sounds like just another way to say be quiet. Stop talking. Take up less space. It’s just a hop, skip, and syllable away from humiliation. Which somehow makes me think of all the women who have told me they are too humiliated to be seen eating alone.
