THE GREAT THING ABOUT TEQUILA IS THAT IT’S NOT JUST A DRINK. IT’S AN activity. Lick. Shoot. Suck. Salt. Tequila. Lime.
“Well, I’ll never forget the debate where you were so offended by the opposing team’s tactics that you physically moved the podium so you wouldn’t have to look them in the face.”
Deflect. Banter. Jab. It may not be as globally recognized as “lick, shoot, suck,” but it’s a routine I know well. One I always fall back on whenever things with Finn veer to close to… something.
“A masterpiece”—Finn cuts off my questioning—“doesn’t have to be flawless. It just has to make you feel something, even years later. Something you go back to over and over, and you’re still surprised and delighted by it.”
All the mistakes I’ve made with Finn have been in moments like this. Moments that feel too good to be true. Brimming with starlight or drunk on fresh victory.
“Sometimes, Emma, making the mistake is the best part about love.”
All we can do is step bravely into our lives, and trust that we’ll be okay—even if we make mistakes.
I know we’ve made mistakes along the way, but I am just glad that all the mistakes I’ve made in my life have led me back to you.
