It was the fact that when I looked into his eyes, instinctually I knew that hidden beneath the bulk of his body trembled a man who had one foot out the door and a history filled with injustices. I didn’t want to be another person who hurt him. I wanted to heal him, in whatever way I could. Even if that thought was naive of me. It was those same injustices that had built him to be the man he was today. Resilient. Kind-hearted. A good father.
