“Your heartbeat does not match the calm projected in your speaking,” Beverly noted. “Right,” AJ said. “That’s our job while under fire. We keep things calm so the next guy doesn’t panic. Panicky people make mistakes.”

“I’m back, Lefty,” AJ said, finally releasing the last bits of tension. “You kind of went to a dark place there, AJ,” Lefty said. “Visit any place I know?” “Yeah, you were there,” AJ said, referencing the pit cage Lefty’s team had found AJ in after he’d been captured. “I figured. Some stuff leaves a mark.”
