What he’d wanted was for her to read the book and see herself in it—and not just in the character that was obviously her, but in every character and place and scene and part of the book that was good, or cheerful, or thoughtful, or smart. He wanted her to see how much he’d noticed about her, because he knew that being noticed made a person feel cherished. He wanted her to know how much he’d cherished her.
