She threw her hands in the air. “Now you sound like Theon. I keep forgetting I’m supposed to simply blindly trust the three of you while I have to earn your trust in return.”

“I’ve told him before that I’ve thought death to be a kinder option more than once,” she answered. “Theon is death, Tessa.” She blinked at his words.

“At first, I assumed they were simply protecting the females in the room, but apparently the males here are just assholes.

“Only someone attempting to be a good person says ‘thank you,’” she murmured. “Maybe those attempts are futile in the end,” he replied. “Or maybe those attempts are the very thing that make you different from what you believe yourself to be.”

And that was where they’d stay because the only thing feeling did was give her hope. Foolish girl. She wouldn’t make that mistake again.
