As our Universe expanded and cooled, quarks assembled into protons (hydrogen nuclei) and neutrons, which in turn fused into helium nuclei. Then these nuclei formed atoms by capturing electrons, and gravity clumped these atoms into the galaxies, stars and planets that we observe today.
