I meant to say, “You appear to be busy.” I meant to say, “Good morning.” I said, “You appear to be morning.” Tragic.

Maybe I’m coming down with something. Like a cold, or an allergy to people in general.

“There are forces at work in my life, Emma, and the only way I can see how to manage them, the only way I can keep those I care for safe, is…to keep a certain distance. You have every right to ask the questions. I will answer them if you do. Only I wish that you wouldn’t.”
