“I guess that means we’ll have to share your side. It seems only fair.”
He’d kissed her as if he needed her, as if his life was colorless and dull without her, as if she was the answer to his prayer to the gods.
She couldn’t believe they’d only known each other for a week. They seemed in sync as they unpacked their bedrolls, started a fire, and prepared dinner, each easily accommodating the other in their activity.
She immediately missed the feel of him—his grounding and calming touch.
“Give me twenty minutes, and I’m all yours.”
“Most definitely. A little breaking and entering, a bit of magic, and a lot of Norden history. I hope we have a thousand more nights like this.”
“There’s no one else I’d rather commit petty theft with,” she said as she squeezed it.
Being honest with herself for once, she acknowledged that he was everything she wanted for herself in an actual romantic partner. If the chemistry between them was any indication, she must fit what he was looking for quite nicely too. She just wasn’t sure how to come to terms with the fact that he was the Suden Point.
How did she reconcile that with the idea that if she successfully reclaimed the Norden Point position, she wasn’t supposed to be with him?
Her magic felt safe…with him. With the Suden Point.
He stepped towards her. “You look exquisite.” He held out his hand, and she took it.
If having his hand on her back sent fire dancing through her veins, dancing with him was a shock to her senses. She’d thought she’d become desensitized to him with all the time they’d been spending together, but she was acutely aware of every point at which their bodies touched. He pulled her closer as they toured the dance floor.
“I love hearing your laugh,” he whispered, pulling her body closer to his as they continued their movement.
“And, Arie,” she said quietly as he approached the door. “Thank you.” “Of course, Rose. But do me a favor. Don’t wait too much longer to tell him, alright? You don’t want to live with that kind of regret.”
“It’s been real for a while, Rose. I’ve just been waiting for you to catch up.” His lips quirked up in a smile as her eyes widened at his confession.
With more problems than she could process, Rose sank herself into Luc’s kiss. Tomorrow’s problems would greet her with the sun, but tonight, tonight she’d enjoy one more night without the responsibility of a Compass Point.
