Knox would like me to inform you that he has done absolutely nothing wrong, he’s the innocent party, anything said or done against him is pure conjecture, and he’ll plead the fifth if necessary.
“No, sunshine. Knowing you’re chained to me is the sweetest joy I know.”
“There it is,” he breathes. He traces the scar that goes straight down my chest. “My financial contribution. The gift that keeps on giving, isn’t that right?”
“No, we’re going to talk about this. You don’t tape your stick like that, Knox. I know you. But you know who does tape their stick like this?” “Aurora, drop it—” “I do.” I push into the locker room right after him. “Did. Whatever.”
I married her, I get to keep her. I called dibs. That’s basically what marriage is, after all.
I don’t want to kiss her, but I’m pretty sure I’ll stop breathing if I’m not inhaling her scent. If I’m not tasting her.
I’m not sure how I’m going to live down nearly shitting my pants.
“My asshole burns,” I complain.
“Not so lucky when even the sun reminds me of you,” he replies under his breath.
“I’ll save you and condemn you,” he replies. His tongue flicks out, licking the sensitive spot just behind my earlobe. “I promise you that, sunshine. You’re going to know true darkness when I’m done with you. But you’ll be safe from all the demons in the world. Except me.”
There’s a tracker in her tooth. Our local dentist back home required a little persuasion, and a lot of money, but in the end he did it. So while she was home, and then later at hotels and coffee shops and the library, I watched her movements on my phone. Obsessed doesn’t cover it. I feel sick, inside and out.
“Well? How was your dessert?” I ask. She sniffs and picks herself up. “I expected it to be a bit dusty, since you spend so much time on the bench. But it wasn’t bad.” My jaw drops. She smiles sweetly. This fucking girl.
“I know you hate hospitals,” he whispers. Yeah. “So just this once, we can call a truce.” Just this once.
“If we’re married, you can get on my family’s plan. I already checked. And my parents have the top-of-the-line shit, like the best that money can buy. Because—well, I guess because they have money, right? I’m sorry if that’s insensitive—”
“I would do anything for you,” he manages. “And this is just the tip of the iceberg, Sunny. You and I could be endgame, but—”
Not when I want to stay married. I do want to stay married, right? But like… not just to torture her. Because I think I might actually be falling for her. Again.
“Then there’s Aspen and Steele. Aspen’s mom married Steele’s dad, so their family is a bit jumbled. Kind of funny, if you think about it…”
She’s so fucking tight—and then there’s resistance. She keeps going, lowering herself and exhaling hard, and then something gives way. She slides down the rest of the way, her inner thighs resting against my hips, and meets my gaze.
“Guess you didn’t count on your wife being a virgin,”
Her mouth isn’t the same as a pussy—and now that I’m in her, I’ll never fuck anyone else. Ever again.
“You know what this means?” he asks. I shake my head, suddenly jelly-limbed and exhausted. “You can’t ever escape me now.” He kisses me again.
“For so long, it felt like I was waiting for you to come back,”
“But then you didn’t, and you said you never wanted to see me again. Which I could’ve accepted, but you wouldn’t sign the divorce papers.”
I lick my lips and crawl up her body, kissing along her stomach, biting her breast over her shirt.
“Did I say you could stop touching yourself?” I demand.
The orgasms seem to have lessened her anger. At least, I think so until she bites me again. On the shoulder, hard enough to draw blood. Ow. I look down at it, at the way she broke skin. But it doesn’t dull my appetite for her. Really, it just cements that we’re soul mates.
