Hydrogen Peroxide Hydrogen peroxide is one of the most effective ways to pasteurize a substrate, although it can be expensive for large-scale projects. Hydrogen peroxide will destroy any harmful bacteria and competitor spores by damaging the mycelium. Soak the substrate for 1 to 2 hours in sterilized water. Drain the water and repeat the process.
