It was not until I discarded all of this – all the artistic structures I had been taught, everything the literary world considered interesting or fashionable – that my writing began to have merit. Which of course is the message of The Sun Also Rises – you have to discard the old moralities, values and belief structures, you have to look for what is authentic in yourself. All good things come from this; all good things come from what is inside you.
