Before I could ask what she’d done with the phones, she pointed at the RV pulling away from the pump. A few seconds later I saw what she was grinning about. The rear of the RV was covered in stickers that said things like “Snow Birds” and “Beach Bound,” and the license plate was from Alberta. “Brilliant!” “I hope Nikolas likes Florida.” Her smile grew. “See, I told you you’d need me on this trip.”

Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did have ogre in his blood. “Holy crap, you could bench press a bus,” I blurted.

“Hey,” I said before he pulled me into a tight hug. “What’s that for?” I asked when he released me. “I think I was too stunned last night to thank you for what you did,” he said hoarsely. “I still can’t believe it’s over.” “You were too busy yelling at me for going to Draegan’s, remember? And then you drank half a bottle of rum.” He winced. “Oh, yeah.” Roland snickered. “And then you threatened to take her over your knee if she ever did anything like that again.” “I’d kill to see that.” Jordan laughed as she set glasses on the table.

“Luck is for the unprepared, and I have trained you too well to rely on anything that fickle.”

“Such words of encouragement. You should work for Hallmark.”
