Marrying seemed like a total waste of time. You should only ever have one love of your life. Yourself. And, perhaps, a dog.
“I always get what I want.” I darted my tongue out, swiping it over my lower lip. “And I want you like I’ve never wanted anything in my life.”
“You are mine now, Farrow. To protect, to corrupt, to ruin. I won’t let anyone treat you badly. Least of all Brett.” A hard swallow traveled down her throat. “What do you want in return?” Everything, I thought. I want everything you have to give and beyond. Every inch of you. Every smile. Every laugh. Every breath. Every touch.
For the first time in my life, I craved more than just existing. I wanted to truly let myself feel.
Maybe I should’ve felt bad about desecrating Zach’s antique library, but maybe he shouldn’t have indirectly called my pussy his cure.
Relationships were high-stakes. Risky. Sex was simple. Instant gratification.
My nostrils flared. “Please, touch me.” She raised a brow, clearly amused. “Where?” Anywhere. Everywhere.
No, I don’t like her. I more than like her. I’m tragically obsessed with her.
“This thing with Eileen isn’t real. She will never have my kisses. My adoration. My complete and full attention. She is a checkmark in a box. She’s no threat to you in the same way a lone shooting star is no threat to the sun.” “Zach…” It came out louder yet quiet—her voice just behind the door now. “Do you think of me as the sun?” No. You’re the entire fucking universe. And I hate that most about you.
For me, Zachary Sun would break all his rules. But for him, I’d break my own heart.
“For my next act…” I grabbed her hand and helped her up. “I’m going to burn down the world for you.”
Suddenly, I couldn’t help but curse the unfairness of it all. People who met their soulmate young never had to feel like they’d started a book on the wrong chapter and needed to read the beginning to appreciate the end.
If I focused on what I didn’t have, I would never appreciate what I did have. “Talk to me, Farrow.”
“You’re my good luck charm, Farrow Ballantine. Even the universe knows I need you.”
“Excuse me?” He went eerily still. “And if I can’t live without you?” “You did for thirty-three years.” “That was before. And it was hardly living.” “We’re not even dating.” “Then, let’s start.”
“I love you, Zachary Sun.” My first. My only. My always.
After twenty-three years, I had finally learned that a home didn’t have to be a place. It could be a person.
This was the problem with giving someone a piece of yourself. Once they left, you could never get it back.
“If there’s an afterlife and we have another chance to do it all over again, I’d still want you as my dad.”
Zach Sun: She’s not just in my heart. Zach Sun: She’s in my fucking veins.
see you staring at your watch every ten seconds. Take the jet. Go get your wife, Zachary.”
“I figured out why I love you.” Our noses touched. I nuzzled mine against hers as we tried to steady our breaths. “And why is that?” “You’re my home.” “I figured out why I love you,” I countered. “And why is that?” “You make my soul breathe fire, my beautiful dark desire.”
The pendants unite two souls. Fate knows what we don’t.
