Sadly, the only spark tonight happened when I leaned over the centerpiece to swipe a slice of bread from the basket Keith was hoarding (“carb-loading,” apparently) and I almost set fire to my sleeve.

And then, Keith drops his voice a fraction. “I’m the main character.” “Sure you are,” Jaxon says in this soothing, pitying tone that one might use to placate a petulant three-year-old.

This is how main character syndrome should be handled

“No” is my favorite complete sentence, and in my opinion, people don’t utilize it enough.

There it is!!

Because in the end, if it comes down to it, my heart breaking for Holly is still preferable to having an unbroken heart that never got to experience beating for her.
