She likes it when I call her my girl. She likes it when I claim her as mine.
“Bloom with grace, my sunshine. Whatever happens, like you were always meant to.”
My heart fills with the promise of undying love as I watch her. So confident, so breathtaking, so graceful. Her own name has never fit her this well.
Fuck me if I don’t know now. Fuck me if I don’t know, without a single shade of a doubt, that Grace is so much more than the love of my damn life. She’s my fucking soulmate.
“Yes, Cal. I love Maddie, and I love you. More than anything in this world.” I swallow past the lump in my throat. “This may not be the ideal moment or place to tell you, but—”
“I love you, sunshine. My heart has loved you since the moment it recognized yours, so akin to mine, so beautiful and selfless. I want to cherish it forever, keep it safe between my hands.”
“I love you. Forever and always,” he whispers before kissing me again.
And I’m hers, completely for the taking, for as long as she’ll have me.
“I love you,” I whisper so only she can hear despite being alone. “You’re my life, Grace.”
“And you’re mine,” she whispers back, stars shining in her eyes. “But I love you more.”
But all I feel is undying love for the man in front of me.
“Marry me.”
Boom.
“Now, next year, in five years… Whenever you wish, sunshine. Whether you want a big wedding or just the two of us, I don’t care. All I need is to know that one day you’ll be my wife and I’ll be your husband, because I can’t stomach the thought of a life without you, Grace. I want it all with you, everything, and I will wait an eternity for you if that’s what it takes to get our happy ending.”

“Why do you sound so surprised?”
“I’m not surprised, I’m… I don’t know, excited?”
“Really?”
“Are you truly excited about having a baby with me?”
“You would be the most amazing dad, just like you’re the most amazing brother.”
“I love you.” His whisper sends a shiver down my spine. “You’re my everything, sunshine, and I can’t wait for the rest of our lives.”
A warm feeling grows inside my chest as I imagine, and not for the first time, a perfect future in which I get to have my sunshine, my princess, and another little sunshine who will look so much like her mom she would steal my heart right away.
I realize then and there that nothing would make me happier than spending the rest of my life with my girls. And maybe a dog or two.
