I sometimes think about conflict like this: At the very center is a gem, or, like in a video game, a set of wings or special shoes that make it easier to get where we have to go next. A prize that can only be retrieved by doing the very thing we feel least compelled to do, the thing that may not even occur to us as a viable option when we are in the eye of the storm. We can only win that very special, very needed gift when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, despite the threat we feel.
