His mate had tried to kill him. Twice. He wasn’t sure if he was aroused or appalled. Maybe a little of both.
After his third spank, he caressed her bottom and cooed to her, “Good girl. You know, you were right. There is only one way this will end. The sooner you accept that, the better for us both.” “Your way?” she sneered. Thwack!
she looked away, hating the feeling of something being ripped from her chest. She hit her breastbone and gave a strangled scream. Guilt doesn’t live here, she told herself. There was no room for it.
“How can that be?” she gasped. His lips lowered to her ears. “My darkness dances with yours.”
His eyes were still closed, but his brows furrowed. His next words were almost inaudible. “Please let me keep you.”
“When someone holds as much love and chaos in their heart as you, it’s impossible for the Well to ignore them.”
“She has a heart of stone.” “Stone is not a bad thing. It is strong.” “It’s unforgiving.” “It can be weathered.” “Over time I do not have.”
“Don’t be afraid of the dark in here, darling. Learn to love yourself, for all your twisted darkness.
“No matter what you think, there is chaos in the world. There is suffering. And there is good. Sometimes there is no sense to it. It happens. The sooner you can accept that your past is a part of you, the quicker you will learn to find meaning in it, and you can understand how to draw on it, and to move forward.”
“You start this, darling, and I’ll finish it.”
He loomed over her like a wild god, virile and entitled.
Their lovemaking became a promise between savage hearts now beating in their own symphony. No matter what war raged, who was fighting, in the future or the past, they would be together on the same side, creating music of their own.
If it meant she’d save him, she would poison the world. Did that make her a villain?
