If she was the right woman. If this woman—this savage, fire breathing, lightning-eyed woman with grease beneath her fingernails—was meant for him.
His mate had tried to kill him. Twice. He wasn’t sure if he was aroused or appalled. Maybe a little of both.
He didn’t like the view from the top with her and he couldn’t explain why. He wanted someone who would push the sky down with him. Not for him.
She slid arms around the thick scaled neck and choked as she locked eyes with Shade. “And let you have all the fun?” He fell in love in that moment.
Frowning, she lifted her lashes. As always, his eyes were arresting. Breathtaking. Why did they feel warm and safe, as though she could crawl in there and make it a home away from her troubles and fears? The thought unsettled her, but it felt right. It hurt that it felt right,
“How can that be?” she gasped. His lips lowered to her ears. “My darkness dances with yours.”
“Allow? One kiss and you think you own me.”
“One kiss is the least of what I’ll give you. You’re mine to protect, mine to hold, and mine to bring to insurmountable pleasure.”
He scowled. “My mother abandoned me. Apart from her turning up once she learned I was with the queen, I never heard from her again. I learned that lesson from the whores who took me in.”
His eyes were still closed, but his brows furrowed. His next words were almost inaudible. “Please let me keep you.”
“Don’t be afraid of the dark in here, darling. Learn to love yourself, for all your twisted darkness. I am.”
“You know why. Until you make peace with yourself, and the dark twisted chaos of your past, you’ll never harness your gift.” “Make peace with my chaos?” With her cowardice and shameful behavior? “That goes against everything I know to be right in the world. Murderers shouldn’t make peace with the death and pain they cause. That’s just plain wrong.”
Larelle kissed Silver once on each cheek. “May the water flow again next time we meet. We’re all eager to spend time with the one who obtained the unobtainable.”
“I tried to kill Shade, multiple times.” To her surprise, Violet put a steadying hand on Silver’s shoulder and squeezed. “Join the club. I tried to kill Indigo. These vampires have a way of pushing our buttons.” “Tell me about it,” she laughed. “I don’t know how someone can be so infuriating and seductive at the same time.” “Don’t forget obsessively possessive.”
“And loyal,” Silver mumbled, thinking of how Shade had kept her secret from the council.
hearts now beating in their own symphony. No matter what war raged, who was fighting, in the future or the past, they would be together on the same side, creating music of their own.
