It was slightly ironic that I was asking the person most people on campus were absolutely terrified of. But Cáel had never made me feel anything but completely safe.
“Let us take care of you.”
Just two days ago, I’d been in Knox’s lap, kissing him. I shouldn’t be feeling this way about someone he considered a brother.
“This thing is one of the best cars on the planet. The Hennessey Venom F5.” Venom sounded like an appropriate car for Cillian. Because if there was one thing that was obvious about this man, it was that he was lethal.
But now, it was like each of these men had a gravitational pull.
He released me, and the moment his touch was gone, I missed it like a limb.
“I wanted to know what it’s like to be a normal girl.”
“You want normal?” My mouth went dry, but I nodded. “Dance with me.”
There was a flash of white teeth against the pulsing lights of the club, and I had the sneaking suspicion I’d just made a deal with the devil.
“What do you think it would be like to have five men devoted to your every need?”
“Does he know that I’m going to take you to bed sometime soon and fuck you so hard you’ll feel me for days? Yes, Little Flame, he does. And he likes it.”
“Your body likes it. I can smell you, Little Flame. And I can’t wait to shove my face between those pretty thighs and eat you until you scream.”
“I’ve heard if people cross Cillian McCarthy, they tend to disappear.”
“I thought he didn’t even like me.”
“He likes you too much. That’s the problem.”
Because we both knew that while the immediate threat was over, a far greater one loomed.
“You care about me?” I stared into those violet eyes. “I’d do anything for you.”
My demons still haunted me on a regular basis, even if they’d dulled a fraction with time.
The fact that Cillian, Mad, and I had all killed for her had cemented our tether.
“Sleep, Little One. Save the freak-out for tomorrow.”
“I know it’s new to you, but I’ve always known there would be one woman for me and my brothers.”
“Make her shatter, brother. Tell me what it feels like to have her strangle your fingers like she’s going to strangle my cock.”
THEY CAN’T HIDE YOU FOREVER.
It was a dragon.
Gone was the man I was falling for, and in his place was a dragon, soaring into the sky.
“Knox is a dragon.”
“We’re dragon shifters. And you’re one, too.”
“I’m not made for a mate bond, Hayden.”
“I don’t trust myself.” I frowned at him. “To do what?” “Protect you.” The words were ripped from Maddox’s throat as if he had to forcibly remove them. “Yesterday is just more proof of that.” I gaped at him. “You saved me.” “No. I almost got you killed.”
“Not good enough. If these idiots had half a brain, they’d send you far away. Leave you with guards and out of our reach. Out of our ruin.”
“This will never happen again. Stay the hell away from me.”
Dragons. An entire supernatural world. My parents. My mates.
“I never said anything about not liking you.”
That who I was wasn’t enough for Easton to get past whatever bullshit he had swirling in his head.
Even with everything I’d been through, I couldn’t wish away Knox, Cáel, and Cillian.
“If you even look at her again, I’ll break every bone in your body. You’ll be pissing out a tube and eating through one, too.”
Prickly, just like the man himself.
“You can’t just beat everyone to a pulp who says something mean to me.”
“We wouldn’t know normal if it bit us in the ass.”
“Sorry, big guy. Sometimes my emotions just leak out of my eyeballs.”
“An angel who will drag you right to hell,”
“This dress is going to kill me.” “But what a way to go,”
Even if it was hell itself, it would be a heck of a lot better than Easton’s vitriol.
“Supernaturals are incredibly sexual beings, shifters especially. We crave touch, contact.”
“So beautiful with those flushed cheeks, just begging for Cillian to make you come.”
Cillian pulled his fingers from my body, lifting them to his mouth and sucking them clean.
“Just because the fucking fates chained me to you, doesn’t mean I’ll give in. My body might react to you, but you’ll never steal my soul.”
Pretending that I could fit in this world. Pretending the guys had actually picked me. Pretending this could work.
