If it was unclear that Biden could change the country’s direction, it was because Trump was more a symptom of what was happening to America than the cause. It was easy to attribute “America First” and the country’s seeming lack of faith in science, its political dysfunction and gridlock, to one man. And the Europeans did that plenty.
