They could never know that she was aware of the spell. If they knew she had that knowledge, she would never be allowed to return home.
“My favorite stories are the ones I can escape into. The ones where I can leave behind this bleak existence and be somebody else, even if just for a little while. Someone braver than me. Someone with the power to change their circumstances.”
His laugh warmed her from the inside out.
Her name wasn’t a prayer on his lips as his had been on hers. It was a curse, one she had placed on him, no less.
He was fighting for her.

He leaned over her, tucking her wild curls away from her face. “How are you feeling, little mouse?”
The pain and the fevered dreams were too much. So, Finndryl began to read her stories from his books.

“How am I supposed to trust you when you put yourself in danger so willingly?”

Her pain was his as well.
He’d come to find her because he’d known she would take action. She’d always been the leader in their duo, and he would follow her to the ends of the earth.
