“Don’t go dying on me, Rosie. I’m not ready to let you go yet. We’ve only just met.”
“You know, Rosie. I wasn’t having the best day when I ran into you. Or rather, when my dog tackled you to the ground. Maybe he knew what he was doing, though. Because my day got a hundred times better after you fell into it.”
“You’re trouble, aren’t you?” That t-word sparks something inside me, something lost and broken, and I cling to Adam as he squeezes me for a moment that ends too soon. He gives Piglet’s chin a scratch, and with one last look in my direction, he winks at me. “See ya around, trouble.”
My mind drifts to Rosie for the hundredth time today,
If you’re looking for love, take a look at the people who show up for you every day. When you find someone who makes you feel like that, an extension of your family, you’ll know.”
“I, um…I liked walking with you. And talking with you. And eating you. No, fuck.” I squeeze my eyes shut and shake my head. “Fuck, no, that’s not what I—eating with you. Your sandwiches. Not your…” I gesture at her crotch. Holy fuck, I gestured at her fucking crotch. I’m turning into Garrett.
“I wouldn’t dream of taking you out. How would I stare at your purple pants?” “You mean my butt?”
The only thing I’m feeling right now is happy, and if you’re still nervous, I’ve got enough happy for the both of us.”
“It’s like at lunchtime when there are extra chocolate pudding cups. I love chocolate pudding, so I eat mine superfast so I can grab another one before it’s all gone. That’s what you’re supposed to do with things you really like. Grab it before someone else does.”
I see all of her, but more than that, I’ve found her. I wonder if she’ll find me too.
“How busy do you want me to keep you? Because sometimes I feel lonely, but when I’m with you, I feel full.”
“Don’t let go, please.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.”
“With you, it feels easier.”
“I’ll be anything you want me to be.” “Just you, Adam. You’re enough exactly as you are.”
Captivating? But she’s so much more than that. She’s…fascinating. Dazzling. Fucking hypnotizing. Doesn’t she know that?
She doesn’t knock the air from my lungs when she walks into a room; she breathes the life back into me. If she’s the flower blooming after the harshest winter, I’m the spring. I’m everything new and fresh, full of life and color and sunshine and hope, after it was all stolen from me the way the first bitter frost of winter steals the beauty of autumn. Rosie gives that all to me, and she has the nerve to sit here beside me and think she’s anything less than enchanting?
She’s my version of paradise.
“If I never had to close my eyes again, that’d be okay, so long as I could keep them on you. Can’t seem to take them off you whenever you’re around.”
“Beautiful isn’t enough, Rosie. You’re fucking immaculate.”
“You are the most beautiful, kind, and thoughtful man on this planet. My heart is already yours. No isn’t an option, Adam.
Please don’t ever try to convince yourself any part of you isn’t just right, because to me, it’s everything. You. Are. Everything.”
I fell for this smile first, because there was no other choice but to fall.”
“That’s how I feel, Rosie. Lucky. So damn lucky to be a part of your family, however small a part of it I may be. So grateful you let me into your lives. So grateful for these beautiful green eyes, and the kindest, widest smile that makes my heart feel so full. So grateful for this strong, incredible body that gifted me a tiny little boy I didn’t know I needed, one I’ve fallen in love with. So, thank you, Rosie. If you can’t see yourself for everything amazing you’ve done for you, I hope you can see everything amazing you’ve brought me.”
You didn’t just find my family; I found my family in you.”
Because I know, in her, I’ve found something I’d given up on. I’ve found love.
“We’ll never be right for everyone, but we’ll be perfect for the right person. And when that person comes along, there is no choice. It just…is. We exist exactly the way we are, with exactly the right people, because there is no other way to be.”
“I don’t want this to go to your head, but it feels like I’m being politely split in half.”
“You wanna belong to someone, Rosie? You belong to me. These eyes are for me. This smile is for me. This heart? All mine.”
“You’re not my first choice, Rosie. You’re the only goddamn option.”
“I’d give you anything you want.” Even if it’s the last thing I want to do right now.
He’s squeezed himself into every crevice of my life, and everything feels so full I’m nearly ready to burst.
“Loving you came so naturally, like all these years I’d been saving it just for you, and when you walked into my life, all I wanted to do was hand you my heart and tell you to take it. So kiss me, please, because I’m ready to give it all to you.”
That’s Rosie. She unravels every string, and when she puts me back together again, I’m better than I was before. Whole, finally, and I don’t think I’ve ever been whole.
“It’s Adam to you, and when I’m inside you, God is
also acceptable.”
“Sometimes people say they know they’ve found the one because they turned their world upside down, took everything they thought they knew and shook it up. But you? Not you, Rosie. You didn’t throw my whole world off balance. You centered it. It was like you were my gravity, and every moment I was with you, everything settled into place. My fears, my insecurities, my hopes, and my dreams. I was at peace with everything, as long as you were by my side.”
