People do indeed sometimes imagine that if the New Testament were focused on the Jewish people and their hopes, its message would become irrelevant for gentiles from that day to this (including, of course, most Christians). Whole schemes of thought, of interpretation of Paul in particular, have been built up on that supposition. But if we want to understand Paul we can’t be content with such an idea.
